It’s all Good
So after having dinner with the Contessa of Fashion Friday night, I got home pretty late. I was having too much fun, making fun of her arrogant bf aka. the Bloody Wanker. Any guy that treats my friend like crap, doesn’t have the privilege to be graced with her presence. Anyway, I had to halt my ass out of bed early Saturday morning, to head out to a NY Care’s volunteer project on the Upper East Side. Well actually, it more like Spanish Harlem. When got out of the train, I saw a few housing projects, then in order to get to the pantry, I had to walk under this bridge. Let’s just say, I wouldn’t want to walk around this neighborhood in the dark. Too many places for people to hide. Basically, we packed some food to be distributed to some low income families. Truthfully, I think the families have it made. I mean they don’t have to go grocery shopping, they just come by the pantry, show the appropriate documentation, and someone hands them a grocery bag of food. Hey, grocery food in 10 minutes, you can’t beat that.
There were also some other volunteers there aside from the NY Cares people. It was bunch of kids from Dalton. Dalton is one of the elite prep schools in NYC, kind of like Spence (which is their rival school). It’s one of those schools, that parents try to get their kids into when they’re born. Not only, do they have to be tested, but the kid and their parents have to do individual interview with the school. Yeah! It’s crazy. The scary part, is that I was looking at the future of the young socialites of NYC. In ten years, I’ll be seeing their pictures in the New York Times announcing their engagement. Volunteering at the Yorkville pantry was more or less the beginning of their involvement in junior committees of various charities. But it’s all good. I think it is also important to understand the importance of what you’re volunteering from.
