Fisheye

Fisheye Camera

This afternoon, I got an Amazon delivery.  I was so excited to finally get my Lomo Fisheye Camera.  My new toy.  It was like Christmas again.  I couldn’t wait to open the box and read the manual.  Pretty much, I was like a kid in the candy shop.

Productive Pottery

Sometimes I really think I have no life. No really. I spent Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the pottery studio. I should just hand over my paycheck for firing fees. In two days, I have already made a total of 10 pieces. Also got 5 pieces out of the bisque firing. They’re sitting on shelf as the wax cures. So why do I put wax on the bottom of my pieces. It’s so that the glaze will not stick to it when I put the glaze on. I guess there is no wet work for a while. I think my other pieces will be ready to be trimmed during glass. And I’m going to try to learn how to make a handle for my cup. Busy, busy, busy. Now I just need to be able to throw thinner pieces. I move quickly before the beginners start saving pieces. I must be able to hold onto the shelf territory I have marked since the beginning of the session. Ha ha.. All mine.

Pretty Pottery

There is this gal in pottery class that is just way too pretty. I don’t mean pretty in terms of how she looks aesthetically. In which she does fair well in that department. But it’s more that she’s not dressed properly for pottery. It’s a craft that is all about getting dirty. She came in today in a button up shirt with a flowery apron and cup with her name on it. Come on. Can you imagine the beavers mom in her 1950s pleated dress throwing a bowl. Seriously.

Pottery Away

I went to the pottery studio to pick up my last 3 pieces. I’m pretty excited how they turned out. Now, I’m having a bit of a hard time selecting my 3 pieces. It’s pretty cool, that I get show my friends and family what I’ve been doing in the basement of the pottery studio. Even my mom is coming to my first pottery show this Friday. A first show only happens once. Woo hoo! But not all my friends are going to be there. Some have something better to do. Oh wells! I’m a bit nervous about showing my work. I start to think maybe I should have shaped the clay this way, or trimmed it that way, or glazed another way. You never know what your piece is going to look like. It’s pretty much up to fate.

Yarn Riot

I went to my first Smiley’s Yarn Riot sale. Let’s just say, I walked out and am now wondering how the hell I spent over 120 dollars on yarn. You heard it right. I got about two garbage bags of yarn. I saw this Paton yarn that usually go for about 7 dollars a ball at P&S. I guess no more yarn for me for a while.

The Clay and Me

I never realized how much connection I have with the clay. More of how much my emotions are effect throwing clay. This past Thursday, I had wedged 3 balls of clay balls of clay. And they all fell apart when I threw them on the wheel. One actually even lifted my bat. I’ve been in a little bit stressed and a bit sad in a few parts my life in the past week, and just have been doing a lot of reflecting. I was hoping that pottery class would cheer me up. But instead my emotions were translated to my work with the clay. By the end class I was just so frustrated. My mom has always said that I wear my emotions on my face. I guess it does to my craft. What the hell going on. Maybe I need to take on meditation.

Flying Bat

Argh! I was throwing my clay on the wheel and my bat decided to go flying. Woops! It went a few feet away and my clay landed face down. In addition, my splash pan split open. it was not a good day. For some reason, every time I try to lift or center the clay, the clay would fall off the bat. So did I lose you in my pottery lingo yet. It’s okay.

First Bowl

It was many first today. I made my first bowl in my pottery class. So psyched. Can’t wait to learn to trim, and hopefully I can glazed that sucker. After 3 classes. That’s so cool. The couple from the first class showed up again. My fellow classmates usually refer to them as the Couple. But I think they’ve watch Ghost way too many times. Naseusating. That’s all I have to say. They seem to get pottery pretty the first time around, but they were really struggling through the class. In the chick Julie left the class. She used the lame excuse that she wasn’t feeling so great. The teacher pretty much told them that they just need to come in practice. I’m so excited that I spent this past weekend at the studio. But now I have a bowl. Sweet. I can’t wait till I use it.

Weekend in Review

It’s been a very busy weekend. And MTA did not help. I didn’t get out of the city past midnight, and got stuck in a train re-routing. Apparently, I had to get off the train to take bus to another station to reach my final destination. Unfortunately this station had no alternative trains. Bah.. Can we say double bah. And in typical MTA fashion, there were no signs a few days prior. This is only because the damn tourists don’t usually venture this far into the woods.

Then I lugged myself into the pottery studio to play with more clay this weekend. It was very serene except for those darn mosquitoes. They even bit my arse. Don’t they know that’s off limits? I feel like I have to spray some Deep Wood Off! with 30% deet before I step foot into the studio. They’re nasty little buggers.

Let’s just say there was too much to do this weekend. On Sunday, I stopped by the Knit Out New York 2005 and some free patterns and help with my first sweater. While some of my friends had headed up to the Cloisters to the Renaissance fair. I had ended my Sunday at the movies. This was definitely one weekend I wanted to be longer.

Round and Round

It has just been a very long week. Partially because there has been so much to do. I was extremely tired and was thinking of skipping out on pottery. Yes, a chance to play with clay. Round and round it went. Very frustrating I say. Cause I don’t yet have the hand strength to wield the wheel. My teacher thinks I should work out with a hammer every day. Isn’t that a scary thought. But I had so much in class yesterday. I finally wedges, lifted, open, and compressed my clay. I have not yet made anytyhing. Just been playing. I feel like I’m back in the sandbox again.
