Annual Yard Sale

CIMG3501

Victorian Flatbush and Fiske Terrace usually has an annual yard sale around early May. Let’s say I hit jackpot on 19th street. I so scored.

  • 9 Quart Casserole dish - $4
  • Vogue Knitting Book circa 1948 - 10 cents
  • Miranda Sensoret Camera - $15

Too bad the Vogue knitting book wasn’t in better condition. There was definitely wear and tear on the cover. But the rest of the book was okay. It was definitely a fantastic piece. But the Miranda takes the prize. Now only if I can find a Diana. Boy, do I love yard sales.

This is also the first weekend, I haven’t gone to Stand Burger. Maybe next weekend. B-U-R-G-E-R!!!

It’s Just a Sale

Folks, it’s just a sale. I was suppose to check out the Kate/Jack Spade sample sale on Monday with my friend PL, but she got slammed by work and we rescheduled for Tuesday. Of course, she had to cancel on me again for work. So what is a girl to do. I guess I can go by myself. But before I did, I tagged my cous to see if he wanted anything. In the end, I had shopping list for Jack Spade bags from my cousins and PL. I landed at the Met Pavilion and made a bee line towards the Jack Spade table. I felt like a guy sent to the supermarket to get some milk and eggs. But instead I had a list of items to get for my male relatives. Can we say this definitely was out of an episode of the Twilight Zone. I made the rounds couldn’t find anything and made the sales guy go through every box. Poor guy. I even interrupted him while he was macking on a customer. Oh wells. They had a few items that were on my list but they were all in the wrong color. Everything was in loud and bright colors. That was good news in a way. Meant that I didn’t have to fight some gay guy for a bag. By the way he would have gone down. There would have been some smack down at some point and someone would have been crying while they runs back to Chelsea. I’m not saying who but I think you get the idea. But they’re not as scary as an little old lady at shoe sample sale. One old lady actually shoved me over a few years ago. They’re not as innocent as they look. And you don’t want to get in their way when it comes down to shoes.

Gift Cards Galore

Every year, my friends give me a gift card for my birthday. I get at least one Barnes and Noble. And it takes forever for me to decide on what to get. I would say it’s one of the worse things to do to me. Finally I cashed out on my Barnes and Noble’s gift card this week. Then I headed over to Century 21 in Brooklyn. It is the best kept secret. The one in Manhattan is usually swarming with tourist and the Brits. And it has already been throughly combed through. I like to go to the one in Brooklyn. Everything is nicely placed on the racks. They even added drapes in the fitting room. So strange. In the end I walked out with several items from Marc Jacobs and cashed out all my gift cards. Phew!

Mission Impossible

K is in town for the holiday from London. And she needs to locate a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor X-Hi in camoflague print. So of course, I ran up and down Broadway and through timbuktu. And also cobbler row to no avail. I did find them at Dirty Jane Sloppy Joe on Broadway. But they didn’t have a UK 5. Bummer. I can’t even find it online.

After Holiday Sales

Of course, there are all these after holiday sales. They’re trying to make up for the lackluster sales during the holiday. And the MTA transit strike. So the stores are all slashing prices. I went to Anthropologie to check out their sale. Picked up two items and promptly put them back on the rack because I didn’t want to get in line. Then I made a beeline to get my holiday cards. I know. But they’re 50% off. How can anyone resist. Off to Urban Outfitters, I go. Can say there was no sale. I’m done with my shopping this year.

Black Friday

I made my list and checked it twice. And pretty much have some semblance of what I am getting everyone for the holiday. I’ve already purchased a few items before the mad rush today. But I’m afraid. Well you would be afraid too. All those people pushing and shoving on the streets. That’s why I don’t shop at department stores. Luckily, I stopped by the pottery studio this afternoon to glazed some pieces before headed into the crowds. And it wasn’t that bad because I didn’t head out until about 5 pm. The crowds were starting to slow down. But there was still some pedestrian congestion around the Soho area. I plan to do most of remaining purchases online. I’m just not one of those people that like to wait to the last minute to buy gifts. And I hate dealing with mornic cashiers especially ones that don’t know what a gift receipt is. I absolutely refuse to pay 7 dollars for 2 sheets of wrapping paper. Okay, now I’m on a rampage

Buyer Remorse

I just couldn’t do it. With the constant ribbing. And just because I couldn’t see myself wearing it with a skirt. I end up returning the cowboy boots to the Century 21. I will not conform. Ha ha ha. There is still hope out there.

Age of Conformity

Ack! Is this what happens when you turn 30. You begin to conform to trends. I feel like filthy hipster right now. Ewww.. I went to Century 21 in search of comfortable flats. And what to do I end up getting. I’m so ashamed. I’ve been in search of a pair of boot all season. But I can find a stinking one because my calves are too big. Which of course my trainer is envious of. He wants bigger calves. But then again, he’s an athlete. I know I just got off topic. Well I decided to try a pair of Tony Lama boots. Yes, I bought a pair of cowboy boots. The essential item for the hipster uniform this year. Bah!

In a Rush…

After leaving the gym, I realized that I wouldn’t have time to shop for a birthday present for an event I’m going to on Thursday. As I’m perusing the aisle at the Clay Pot, I found I was looking for myself. I think I have a new designer I like. Jeanine Payer. Her stuff is really simple with inscriptions but way overpriced. I saw a pretty neat ring that also turned but it was over 400 dollars. Hmm, I think I might think about it. I must curtail my expensive taste. Ha!
