Got Milk?

My mom is like the maven for the cost of milk in my neighborhood. She’s always on the hunt for the better deal. She buys a gallon of milk every week. Last week, the best deal for milk was $ 2.19. Then sometime this week someone pointed out to her some other store was selling milk for about $1.98 but it tasted a little bit tart. On Saturday, the first I hear is how much she paid for milk and then for me to go taste the milk because it seemed a little bit off to her. Perhaps this is where I inherited my frugality. Got milk?

Shopping Expedition

I must stop shopping. But there have been so many sample sales in the past 3 weeks. I’ve been pretty good. As they say in NY, why should you pay full price when you can just get it at a sample sale. *Smile* You just need to know where to look.

I got this cute little cocktail dress at the Carmen Marc Valvo for a 100 dollars.

Then I went to the Delman sample shoe sale. And I had shoe blinders on me. By the time I got out of the sale, I realized how much money I spent on shoes. I had to have these satin ballet slippers, with these criss cross in the middle. They were so cute. I know everything is cute.

What a Sale

Oooh.. it’s sample sale season. And it’s going to be the death of me. It all kicked off this Saturday when I went to the Billion Dollar Babes’ sample sale. And I walked out of there with nothing except money in my pocket.

Then on Monday, I get my sample sale emails. Time to plan. So I whipped out my fingers and start typing everything out in a spreadsheet. Isn’t that so geeky. But we got to be organized ladies. You have to figure out how you’re going to optimize your time. If you’re lucky, you can hit a few at a time. A plan of attack. You don’t mess with women and sample sales. Especially, little old ladies. They’re vicious. I actually had one shove me at a shoe sale.

Today I went to the Susana Monaco sale. And it rocked. I really like her stuff. I ended up getting a printed dress and skirt. They’re so cute. Hey, if you live in NY there really is no reason to pay full price.

Price is Right

Yesterday, I stopped by at one of my regular sample sale haunts in the garment district. And they were closed at 7pm. They were having a Free People sale. So who is Free People. It’s a clothing line that is carried by Urban Outfitters. Fortunately, I was not alone in my woes. This girl was knocking on the door to get in while I was heading up the stairs. And we exchanged a few words. She had inquire if I worked in fashion too. Which is something from my distant past. We both expressed that after working in fashion, and understanding the huge mark up on clothing that there was really no need to pay full price. It was more like we would refuse to pay full price ever again.

In the end, I caved in and went back to the sale this afternoon. And I ended up waltzing out with 5 new pieces to wardrobe.

I Give Up

So after making my purchase yesterday, I decided to go back to the Lauren Meriken sale to get this multi color convertible clutch. I realize this bag would match more of my clothes. Bah!

On top of this shopping addiction, I’ve been trying to kick coffee for a week. I wonder if there is a caffeine anonymous. Let’s see how long it will be before I fall off the bandwagon. Scrunch nose. I was extremely moody without my coffee. Damn, this caffeine addiction.

Sample Chic

Today I stopped by Lauren Meriken sample sale. I first saw one of her convertible clutch in Lucky a few months ago. It was retail valued at $285, and just my luck it was at the sample sale for $85. Way cool!

I ended up buying a The Covertible Clutch and the Medium Oliva Port. All I can say is neato.

The Bag

I’ve been in search for the perfect gym bag. So I was so excited, when my friend Christine had dropped off the Herve Chapelier shoulder bag she got me from Paris. I was able to fit all my gym stuff and more. That evening, while I was walking to the train station, I had spotted at least 3 people with the same bag, different color of course It was so weird, because I never really noticed it before. It was one of those tote bags that was really popular a few years ago. I’m just happy because it can fit all my crap in there. Too-da-loo

Free Lunch

This afternoon, a friend of mine IM me to tell me about this free lunch thing. I’ve like what are you talking about. Are you sure it’s not a scam. Considering 2 weeks ago, there was the Starbuck’s hoax certificates. Anyway, it wasn’t a scam at all. Pretty much, it was this promotions they were running where you can order up to 8 dollars of food. Hence, free lunch. Technically, it wasn’t free because you provided them information for their database. And that’s probably more valuable then 8 dollars per person. In essence, we sold our information for a meal. Kind of reminds me of the good old college days, where people would sign up for a credit card for a t shirt. Man, we were so poor then. Talk about shoe string budget.

Off the Band Wagon

A few week ago, I went through a DVD shopping spree. And I told myself, that I wouldn’t buy a slew of DVDs for quite a while. NOT! I was waiting for a friend at Virgin Megastore, and they had a big sale on DVDs. Pretty much 10 dollars each.

    Check out what I got

  • Blast from the Past
  • Spaceballs
  • Venus Beauty Institute
  • Dangerous Beauty
  • Chaplin
  • Center of the World
  • Mannequin
  • Boiler Room
  • Mystic Pizza

My friend bought a copy of The movie the Cutting Edge. Who doesn’t like that movie. It’s so cheesy, but everyone loves it.

Blast from the Past

Ah! Thrift Stores are evil. They’re just as bad as yard sales.

All this for a total of $15.70. Not bad!

You’ve caught me, I was a Tommy Page fan when I was a teenager. After listening to his CD this evening, I realize how cheesy some of the lyrics were. I guess we all go through that boy band phase. At least he writes his own songs and plays an instrument. That said, Tommy Page rocks, and today’s boy bands suck. I know I’ll probably get a lot flack for that statement. But I doubt any teeny boppers are lurking around on this page.

I don’t know why I don’t have any will power when it comes to books. I guess it’s the allure or the fact it was 50% off the deep discounted price.. I couldn’t help picking up a copy of the hello midnight, for the insomniac in me.
