Rummage Sale

Since I was up anyway. I thought I swing by one of the neighborhood yard sales. It was crazy. People were already sifting through everything by the time I got there about half past 8. I left the yard sale with about 7 books and 1 vinyl record for a grand total of two dollars. hehehe =) Sometimes, yard sales are such gold mines. Of course, I plan to hawk off the vinyl record on ebay. It’s probably worth more then the 25 cents I paid for it. hehehe =)

Off to play Collapse again.

Highway Robbery

This past weekend, I thought I stopped by HMV on 86th and Lexington to check out what they had left, since that store location was closing. On the door, it was a whopping 40% off all merchandise except for sale items. Of course! So I walked down the aisle looking for some bargain DVDs. Instead, I encountered a copy of Penelope Cruz’s movie Woman on Top for $ 34.99.

What the heck! Who would buy that for $ 35 bucakaroos. It’s not even an Academy Award winning film or a 2 disk DVD set. Who does HMV think they are. Highway Robbery, I say!

So that night, I decided to hop onto the HMV website. In which, Woman on Top DVD is selling for $ 15.12 USD ($22.99 Canadian). Now, that sounds about right. Still pretty pricey for a Penelope Cruz flick.

All I can say is there ain’t no discount at the HMV on 86th and Lexington.

Shameless!

You’ve caught me red handed! I couldn’t help myself. I went shopping. In Old Navy nonetheless. Yes I feel so ashamed. I haven’t really shopped in Old Navy since college where you had to live off a shoe string budget. My initial intent, was to go into Old Navy to buy a pair of lfip flops.

Instead I walked out with the following items

  • Beaded strap halter dress (black) $14.62
  • Stretched crossback tank (blue heather and black) 2 for $15
  • Flip flops (black and burgundy) 2 for $5

Grand total: $34.62

I guess it wasn’t that bad. It’s kind of strange because, normally I can’t even find a top for 30 bucks.

*plop* *tilts head and look up* with the look of buyer remorse. *scrunchs nose*

The Mad House

Who would think that the search for a pair of size 6 women sneakers (or trainers) would be such an elusive task. After going through several athletic shoe stores. I ended up lugging my ass into Macy’s. And if you know me, I hate department stores. It’s literally a mad house in there. The crowd is comparable to pedestrian traffic down by Time Square. I’m just glad that my wanderings into Macy’s have never occurred during a sale. I would hate to imagine the vulture-like behavior of the average consumer during a sale.

So to accomplish my task, I made my way to the information desk to inquire about the whereabouts of their athletic shoe department. I was promptly directed to the fifth floor. After combing through the entire shoe department there were no sneakers in sight. I decided to asked the salesman where I would be able to find sneakers. And he said “we don’t carry sneakers at Macy’s, just designer sneakers.” Geez louise! Who do they think they are… Neiman Marcus. For god sakes! It’s just Macy’s, the department store of the average consumer. When did department stores stop carrying sneakers.

I ended up at Foot Lockers. The search is over. I’ve finally got the elusive size 6 sneaker. Woo hoo!

Size Matters

Today, I went out with the sole mission of finding a new pair of sneakers. And let me tell you size matters. (If you thought otherwise, then you need to get your mind out of the gutter. ha ha =d ) After an exhaustive search I ended up with nothing. I went to about 6 or 7 sporting good stores, and none of them had a size 6. Is that too much to ask. Do I have to go to the kids section to find a pair of sneakers. Hey.. I know you’re laughing. Kind of think about it, I can probably find some stuff that fits me in Gap Kids. Their overalls are a much better fit.

I guess the search will continue, tomorrow.

What Shall I Wear?

I have this corporate soiree that I am attending next Thursday. Supposely, I’m going to be in a room full of Wall Street I-bankers. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Well that not for me. Do you know how hard it is to find something to wear. This has nothing to do with that fact I’m female. But the petite section in any clothing store, is more or less non-existent. To the future fashion designer who happen to run across my blog, don’t forget about the little people.

This past weekend the Fashion Guru had left with the arduous task of finding an outfit for this shin dig. At first, he was optimistic about the challenge, but as the day went on, he discovered the task at hand was more difficult then he thought. We zoomed from 34th Herald Square, to Chelsea, Soho and back to Flatiron district. Finally, we found something at Loehmanns. Yipee! A simple black sleeveless top with a black skirt. It takes too much effort to try to be pretty pretty princess.

Another Year

Happy Lunar Year. I know everyone is all festive, right now. Especially, my friend NC. She is the absolute epitomy of new year’s spirit. I on the hand, am not. I just kind of pretend it’s like any other day. Guess, it has to do with the fact my family doesn’t really go through all the hoop la. Then again, my immediate family is pretty small. Things might have been different if my parents didn’t move to the States.

Though this year, I’m very grateful, that I found a job before new year’s. Even bought a new pair of shoes from Steve Madden (the style is Jett). I know, I was so bad. But I can’t help it. Shoes are my weakness.

Actually, I was on a mission to look for a pair of black flats. But they didn’t have my size. That’s what I get for having small feet. My black patent leather shoes are comfortable and all, but I need something better. Maybe I have another look at shoes stores around the area. The downfall of location of my company, is that it’s a major shopping area. I’m going cruising around Sephora tomorrow. At this rate, I’m going be broke. But, what did you expect, I haven’t really gone shopping in the past 10 months excluding my trip to London of course. Got build up the nest egg, not spend it.

Hmm.. Got to think about that one.

Errands and more errands

I ran out to Shop Rite for my mother. She couldn’t resist a bargain. They were having a sale on some Shop Rite canned vegetables. And I was instructed to purchase 12 cans of corn for $1.99. Let me tell you, people in supermarkets are just as vicious as woman in sample sales. I had several people ram there cart into me in the canned food aisle. They definitely lack the patience to waiting for other people to move their carts out of the way. I was forced to put my back heel on the carts of the people behind me, to prevent them from shoving into me. I almost got into a fight with another shopper in the aisle. He said excuse me. But there was room to move for a person or someone with a cart. Then he shouted and said can you please move. And I got really annoyed, and said, as you can see there is no room for anyone to move. You can just wait here as patiently as the rest of us. Can’t you see it takes some of these seniors a little more time. I know, there is never a dull moment with me. Even on a simple task such as grocery shopping. I don’t know how I get myself into these situations.

The Allure

I was walking down Soho, doing my own little thing while I run through my list of errands. When I see this sign for a sample sale. I look up to the former Pseudo office building, and there was a sample sale going on. Should I, or should I not. I must.. I must resist. But it’s a sample sale. Ugh! But then again, there are always sample sales going on. Yup, my strong will prevailed. And no damage was done to my wallet. Well not until I hit the streets of London.
