Yarn Riot

I went to my first Smiley’s Yarn Riot sale. Let’s just say, I walked out and am now wondering how the hell I spent over 120 dollars on yarn. You heard it right. I got about two garbage bags of yarn. I saw this Paton yarn that usually go for about 7 dollars a ball at P&S. I guess no more yarn for me for a while.

Post Thanksgiving Festivities

Last night I went to my friend ML’s Get Your Tryp Out, post-Thanksgiving party in Bushwick. I halted my arse there via the 5 train transfer. The Q to the Shuttle; to the C; to the A; and finally the L. It was definitely a party of cast of characters. One being my friend ML. There was this guy there that reminded me of Andy Warhol. He had the white hair, white glasses, sweater, pinstripe pants and motorcycle boot. Did I forget he his this funky velvet blazer. But he was definitely very gregarious. Then there was this guy who was brooding over this girl and having an argument with her via text message. Can I say having an argument via text message is very lame. Just pick up the phone and call the girl. Of course, he was a writer from Buffalo. He provided a few minutes of amusement as he was downing his bowling ball Budweiser. While chatting with him he pointed out his buddy who was there on a first date with Aqua girl. Why is she called aqua girl. Apparently, she wears only white and aqua. How strange. I ended up leaving a little before midnight. Right after the shadow puppet show. All in all it was an interesting evening.

Black Friday

I made my list and checked it twice. And pretty much have some semblance of what I am getting everyone for the holiday. I’ve already purchased a few items before the mad rush today. But I’m afraid. Well you would be afraid too. All those people pushing and shoving on the streets. That’s why I don’t shop at department stores. Luckily, I stopped by the pottery studio this afternoon to glazed some pieces before headed into the crowds. And it wasn’t that bad because I didn’t head out until about 5 pm. The crowds were starting to slow down. But there was still some pedestrian congestion around the Soho area. I plan to do most of remaining purchases online. I’m just not one of those people that like to wait to the last minute to buy gifts. And I hate dealing with mornic cashiers especially ones that don’t know what a gift receipt is. I absolutely refuse to pay 7 dollars for 2 sheets of wrapping paper. Okay, now I’m on a rampage

Rain or Shine

I woke up this morning pretty late. And right now, I’m just procrastinating. I really should be getting ready for my NYCares project. But I decided to check my dashboard to see what the weather was like today. It’s been raining for about 8 days straight. Just very bleek all week. But my friend AC summarized everything in a nutshell. I get an im message from AC this morning saying “Holy crap, there is sunlight and no rain.” Ha ha. Well got to go get ready

Gobble Gobble Day

Happy Thanksgiving everyone or I would prefer to say Happy Gobble Gobble Day. It’s either a turkey or a tofurkey. I woke up this morning and waited for a call from my friend. We were going to head over to Jay Senior Center to volunteer to serve seniors Thanksgiving dinner. We got there at about 11 am, and spent most of our time waiting. I was suprised that we got a special appearance from the Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. First thing, I’m thinking is this is going to be a photo-op moment. It was pretty nice. He is the first politician I met that didn’t lug a professional photographer with him. It very different. Unlike when I interned for Schumer. There was alway a camera man when he was in his office. This is back when he was just a Congressman. At about noon the show went on the road. Old people are funny. They were like squirrels. One woman was already throwing the rolls in her bag. Then they broke out the tupperware. And last but not least they came at us like vultures for some aluminum foil. You feel like they haven’t eaten in ages. They wanted more and hated to be cheated if they couldn’t have 3rds on the meal. Yes, you heard it right. Seconds are just not good enough.Strangely enough, it was very reminiscient of my college days. Except we use to take our food up to stir-fry. And squirrel away milk and cereal. But that’s what college students do.

Fleeing Gobble

I know what you’re thinking. What the Hell! Well it seems everyone is fleeing the city. I know. It’s always so strange to me. Since I grew up in the and work in the city. This is really home for me. While all the transplants are scatting all over the country. Let’s go West, North and South. Everyone probably at the airport. I must admit that I really glad that I never had to suffer the hustle and bustle of holiday travel. Totally nuts. But I also have to admit that I miss my friends. For some reason about 3/4 of my friends have left the city. Boo hoo!

Metrogrip vs. Transtrap

Darn, another contraption to try to my life easier. Since I’m vertically challenge I can touch the horizontal bar but I have to tip toe in order to hold onto it. This is how the Metrogrip and the Transtrap come into play. But which one should I buy. The Transtrap has all these extra accessories and it’s only about 10 bucks. Do I really want to deal with the hook. Then of course, there is the Metrogrip for 5 bucks. Okay, that’s really speaking to me right now especially the free shipping. So I’ve cracked and bought a Metrogrip. Can I say they need to change the sale tax on their thing to 8.375% from 8.625%. I know it’s only a penny difference, but it’s all about the principle. As my friend VW said, tell me how the Metrogrip works for you. Then I responded are you afraid of cooties. Hopefully, this thing works. Makes you want to carry Purell all over the place or at least wet naps.

Muggles and the Movies

Every year except for last I always go to see Harry Potter with my friends. This year was no exception. We gathered at about 4:30. I was late. I know that’s a rarity. We rushed to the theater and got on the grown up line. The movie ran at a very quick place. But the book is always better. They pretty much cut all the scenes that did not involve Harry. And of course by the end of the movie the book readers were nit picking at it. All in all it was pretty neat. I must said that I dreading the long line outside the woman’s bathroom.

Chai Latte, Please!

Before, I head to the pottery studio I was in dire need of caffeine. I headed over to Fall Cafe down on Smith Street and order my usual Chai Latte. As I walk across the street to check out the holiday market. I realized my drink didn’t taste right. It tasted like coffee. I took another sip, and knew it wasn’t Chai. I never need to add sugar when I get Chai. So I immediately high tailed back across the street. Stormed into the cafe and went up to the barista and said this is not a chai latte. And he venomly denied that he gave me the wrong drink. This is coming from the barista that short changed me one dollar in which I pointed out to him. He had admitted he was a bit scattered. He said it is a Chai Latte that I made with chai, a shot of espresso and half and half. Dude! That’s not chai. Who puts a shot of espresso in Chai. So his fellow barista told him to make it again. Talk about scattered. Where can you find a good barista now a days. Apparently, not at Fall Cafe.

Strike a Pose - The 30th Recap

Since my birthday fell on a Monday, I can to have my big shindig on Friday. So I lugged my friends to Lakeside Lounge for my bday shin dig. Why this I choose this venue. It’s because of the photo booth. I wanted all my friends to take silly pictures and hand the strips over to me. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that there would be a musical act at about 10:30 which pretty much scared my friends away. Partially because you couldn’t hear anything to talk. For some strange reason I had a contingence of lawyer at my party. Well about 5 of them were friends of D.I. As I would call them D.I. & co. Ha ha. And there were 3 on my side. A housing, employement and a legal aid lawyer. Very different than the corporate lawyer and the odd man out aka the litigator. Oh wells. In the end it was a lot of fun. With everything that occured this past year, I’m very fortunate to be here to celebrate my 30th with my friend. As I get older, and I know this sounds cliche, but friends are more important than presents.
